Terry Brown asked:

The sky is the limit! And Honda Motors has already announced its plans to accept sales orders in the U.S. for their very first jet, the HondaJet. Honda made the announcement at the Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture 2006.

Honda also announced that they have plans to enter the aviation industry and to build a business alliance with the co-developer of the HondaJet, Piper Aircraft Inc. Honda Motors and Piper Aircraft will work together and collaborate on sales, services, and development in the general aviation business. Complete details on the collaboration of Honda and Piper Aircraft were, however, not included in the announcement.

The first public world debut of the HondaJet took place at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture 2005 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The EEA AirVenture is the largest annual aviation gathering. The HondaJet was built using the latest technology in the aviation development industry, the patented over-the-wing engine-mount configuration, a natural-laminar flow (NLF) wing, fuselage nose, and the advanced all-composite fuselage structure. The said features were the innovative output of a 20-year aviation research of Honda Motors. Some say that the HondaJet was an aircraft version of the Honda Civic.

Satoshi Toshida, Senior Managing Director of Honda Motors said: “Aviation has been an important dream of Honda for more than four decades. Our goal is consistent with the philosophy of other Honda products — to provide convenient and efficient transportation that will make people’s lives better. We are excited now to enter a new dimension of mobility. In Piper we believe we have a partner we can collaborate with in our effort to bring new value to customers in the very light jet market.”

“Honda is a company with a rich heritage of bringing high quality, innovative products to market. This business alliance is a perfect fit given the commitment both Piper and Honda have to providing our respective customers with world-class products and services. Piper is very excited about this alliance and the way it complements our vision for the future,” said James K. Bass, President and CEO of Piper Aircraft, Inc.

The HondaJet’s main specifications include a 7-seater capacity, two GE-Honda HF118 TurboFan engine, and maximum speed of 778 km/hour (420 knots), 12,497 operational ceiling, and a range of 2,037 km. As of the moment, the development of HondaJet by Honda Motors and Piper Aircraft is still ongoing. Moreover, Honda is currently building automotive products such as Honda motorcycles, cars, and other Honda Civic parts in 13 manufacturing plants in the U.S. and other regional subsidiaries.

Check Your Bike

Mansi Gupta asked:

Nothing could ruin your day more when you’re driving in the countryside and then in the middle of nowhere, your Honda CBR motorcycle breaks down. All that because you never checked anything before you went out thinking, “I’ve checked that yesterday so there shouldn’t be any problem.”

It’s important to check your motorcycle before you go for a ride. Maybe it would be too much for you to do it everyday but you have to do it at least before you go out especially for a very long ride. This ride can’t just be hauled and you’ll be spending hundreds of dollars because you missed one thing that led to another problem. So here are some of the things that you should check before going out, full throttle.

Tires – the most important of them all. Check the tires of your Honda motorcycle and make sure they are inflated properly. Under-inflated tires will take in heat faster than regular tires. With too much heat, the tire will blow up unexpectedly, and you’ll be lucky if you don’t have an accident because of blown tires. To make sure you have the digits correct, purchase a portable gauge to know the psi of your tires.

Brakes – most of the accidents come from the fact that brakes don’t work. So before you go out and take the long ride, check your brakes. Make sure the break fluid in your motorcycle is enough. It’s even better if it’s. Check the front and back break fluids of your motorcycle. Check the break pads when you’re at it. Thin break pads should be changed immediately. You don’t want to realize that you don’t have any break when you are already on the road and more than 60mph on your motorcycle.

Chains – It will not really cause major accidents but it will cripple your motorcycle to a halt. Before you go out and do a major road trip on your motorcycle, lubricate them before you even go out. You really don’t need to do it everyday but at least do it every time you visit the gas station. This will ensure your chains will complement your rear tires and will not contrast to it. The last thing that you need in your motorcycle is a busted chain especially on a road trip since chains maybe the last thing you’ll think will break.

Fuel and Oil – probably the most important for a smooth ride. You Honda CBR 600 will naturally stop if you don’t have enough gas. For long rides, oil should be checked especially the oils in your break fluids.

Battery – You’ll know you need one when you can’t start anything electronically. Every light and signal that you’ll need for your trip should be there. If it needs refill, do not use tap water. There’s specific water for batteries and they are deionized water. Distilled water could also be an option.

These are the things that you should check before you go out even for a short ride. This will also ensure that your motorcycle will also last longer.

Honda Aerodynamics

Evander Klum asked:

In Barcelona, Spain last week Honda F1 team has tested its new aerodynamic design which was in the form of “elephant ears”.

The Honda RA107 which was driven by Christian Klien with its protruding elephant ears on its front nose was following the heels on MacLaren’s nose-straddling front wing. Unfortunately it seems like the elephant ears are not really meant for racing, the Honda F1 team has set the slowest time of the day. The team has finally decided not to push through with their new aerodynamic design since it has done nothing to enhance the performance of their car.

According to Jacky Eeckelaert, engineering director, “The main purpose of our test programme this week was to evaluate different aerodynamic configurations which have been developed in order to improve the braking stability of the car. The braking is definitely better now and the lap times have improved and become more consistent, but there is still a long way to go to bring the team back into contention.”

Honda, second largest auto seller in Japan and maker of high quality accord body kit, has been working really hard to correct the problems of the new car since the start of the season especially in terms of the car’s handling performance.

According to some reports the team is currently working round the clock to develop a new car which would be launch hopefully next month in time for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Although the test didn’t go well for the Honda team it proceeded remarkably for some teams like for instance David Coulthard and Red Bull Racing has been able to grab some attention by posting a new track record with a time of 1:21.066. The quick lap happens during the qualifying simulation wherein the RB3 was running on a minimal amount of fuel just before it hit the circuit.

Pedro de la Rosa of the McLaren’s was 2-10ths back as he tries to test the new front wing of the team’s car which would make its debut at the Spanish Grand Prix in two weeks time. Felipe Massa of the Ferrari team was able to finish with the third fastest time despite a mechanical failure that has interrupted his drive in the morning. And as expected of Ferraris they have finished the week recording the fastest time, three out of the four testing days.

Giancarlo Fisichella, the driver for Renault was the fourth quickest with Robert Kubica completing the top five. The driver for Toyota, Ralf Schumacher finishes as the sixth fastest.

Honda Innovations

Sunday, January 11th, 2009
honda motorcycle
Two motorcycles models were introduced by Honda in 1983 that were to have a big impact on the motorcycling community. One was the Honda Shadow 750 and the other the Honda VF750F Interceptor. They were very different in design but both models extended motorcycle engineering enormously.

With an innovative V twin engine Honda’s engineers produced an engine for the Shadow with two cylinders arranged in a V configuration that considerably reduced vibrations. In previous V twin engines with the angle between the cylinders not at 90 degrees imbalance causes vibration and added weight, complexity and cost is caused by the counterbalances needed to damp these down. Honda overcame this problem by using an offset dual pin crankshaft which achieved a perfectly balanced V twin engine with a narrow angle, the first of its kind. Honda later used this design in the VT500C Shadow and the VT500 Ascot.

The Shadow also had other design innovations including a one way Sprague clutch, designed to stop wheel chatter which was also a problem with previous V twin engines. Three valve cylinder heads and twin plugs, still used by Honda in Shadows produced today, were also introduced with this model of Shadow. Three valves improved fuel flow and reduced emissions are a result of twin plugs. These innovations increased mileage and liquid cooling stabilised the temperature for lower emissions and better performance.

These innovations substantially increased performance giving the Shadow a performance equal to that of motorcycles with at least 50% more displacement.

Honda didn’t stop there however. Other features included hydraulic valve adjusters, electronic ignition, hydraulic clutch and front brake and other features designed for easy maintenance and improved performance. needing only regular oil changes and spark plugs replaced on a regular basis it was one of the easiest motorcycles to maintain in its day.

Innovative and forward thinking design is great but looks are equally important! General opinion is that the Shadow’s looks were also a huge leap forward. During the 1950’s and 1960’s classic American cruiser styles had become increasingly popular and these designs were incorporated into the Shadow from the drawing board rather than slapped on as an extra as other motorcycle manufacturers were doing. This gave a completely integrated style to this cruiser. Design considerations that made the Shadow stand out from the crown include cast wheels, angled muffler, twin seats, backrest and a stylish front end.

The VT500C, introduced in 1983 was available in Black or Candy Wine berry Red. Both the rear fenders and fuel tank were painted, the engine covers were black and the side covers chrome. From 1983 to 1986 a Red and Black Honda Shadow decal with a gold outline was on the side cover. The headlight was rectangular and chrome and there was a single horn.

By 1985 colours available were Candy Glory Red or Black and the headlight was now round. it also had dual horns and a twin seat with an integrated backrest. In this year the engine covers were chrome and the fins were enlarged.

One of the most popular lines ever produced placed Honda at the front of the cruiser movement. Today the Honda Shadow is as popular as it was when it was introduced more than two decades ago.

CBR Exhaust Systems

Friday, January 9th, 2009
honda motorcycle
Imran ali asked:

The aftermarket motorcycle exhausts are a great way to enhance your motorcycle’s performance in terms of better and more powerful operation. Honda CBR exhausts are now available in a number of styles, each with a different set of features. You can find easy-to-install exhaust systems for almost all CBR models including CBR929RR, CBR954RR, CBR900RR and CBR1000RR. There are basically three types of aftermarket exhaust systems for motorcycles: slip on exhausts, full exhaust systems, and race exhausts. They are made up of high quality materials that resist shocks and fierce weather conditions. Most motorcycle enthusiasts replace factory-installed exhausts to create an intimidating rumble which is a characteristic sound of heavy bikes.

Exhaust systems for motorcycles are made by using titanium, stainless steel, aluminum and carbon fiber. Titanium and aluminum are very light weight metals and they are also very durable. You will notice a considerable change in the way your motorcycle moves after installing these custom exhausts. Some of these systems are composed of duplex crossover tubes attached to the header for an even better performance. Motorcycle exhaust systems are required to collect waste gases from the combustion engine and release them to the atmosphere. Some systems are designed to be more effective than others because they use more robust parts and wider pipes to allow for a smooth air flow. CBR exhausts come with excellent features like weight saving, race can performance and lifetime warranty.

You can also check out down pipes as separate parts to replace the existing stock pipes. OEM, standard and slip-on down pipes are available on the market which are very easy to install and deliver maximum output. In addition to these, you can also check out full exhaust systems which come with cone-shaped end caps. These systems can be bought for $600 to $900 depending on their material and features. Since CBR exhausts are visible after installation, they are designed to appear very attractive. This is the main advantage of these aftermarket motorcycle parts which make them even more desirable. The latest titanium flame exhausts for Honda motorcycle models are expertly finished to give a forceful and intimidating look. They are highly regarded among motorcycle lovers because of their elegant color and a solid thunder. Reputable manufacturers provide high quality and efficient exhaust systems that integrate beautifully with the other parts and last for many years.

You can find discount deals and special offers on these systems at online stores. Most custom exhaust systems are handmade by skilled craftsmen and therefore they are very reliable. High quality silencers or mufflers are provided by the industry’s leading manufacturers for almost all CBR models. These mufflers come in many different styles and colors to choose from. Some people also like to buy motorcycle exhaust accessories to complement their exhaust systems. These accessories include baffles and quiet inserts, exhaust nameplates, end caps, and exhaust bolts and screws. Headers and mufflers can also be purchased separately to completely customize your exhaust system. Titanium head pipes are used on some systems for optimized engine power and maximum performance.
Honda CBR exhausts can prove to be a wonderful modification for your motorcycle. They not only improve the appearance of your ordinary-looking vehicle but also make it more daunting and unapproachable. You can browse through a wide range of exhaust systems available out there for your specific model. These aftermarket motorcycle parts come with a complete installation guide along with all the required accessories to help you throughout the setting up procedure. Check out some of the most elegant and fit exhaust systems made by Japanese manufacturers which are considered the best and most reliable in the world.
