Hey. I have a 96 cbr f3 that will start up, its sometimes a chore, and then will die once i get going or sometimes while idling. Whats weird is that it will idle sometimes for a long time and then when I ride it dies in less than a minute. Anyone know what to look for?

you could try & change the spark plugs or it could be over fueling,or it could be the air filters
clogged fuel filter?
It sounds like a fuel starvation problem.
Has the bike sat for several months without being started? If so, you may have had gas dry within the carbs and leave varnish that blocks or restricts fuel flow. A quick and reasonably cheap fix for that is a carb cleaner in the gas tank. Add to your gas, mixing well (rock the bike) and then start and idle the bike until it stops, or for about 5 min, whichever is less. That should get the cleaner into the carbs. Let it sit overnight, and restart in the morning – hopefully that will cure the problem.
Has anyone messed with the carb settings? If so, you should get a good maintenance manual for your bike and adjust them in accordance with the recommended procedure. That may take some tools that you don’t have. You can either get the tools, or have the dealer do the job.
As a 12 year old bike, it may be time to do a major tune-up in any case. The maintenance manual should give you what needs to be done, or you can have your dealer do the job, depending on your skill/confidence level and economic situation (dealer service is not cheap… LOL!).
Good luck and ride safe.

Had similar problems.
The fuel pump died a slow death by working for
a few miles, then not, then it would work again for a few miles.
If your carbs are clean and fuel filter is ok, this is probably your problem.
Pull the hose that feeds carbs, crank the motor, see how much gas you get.
